Legislation to Expand Paid Leave Reintroduced in the House

NTEU recently endorsed bipartisan legislation that would provide federal employees with12 weeks of paid family and medical leave.

Reps. Don Beyer (D-VA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) reintroduced the Comprehensive Paid Leave for Federal Employees Act last week.

At the time of introduction, National President Doreen Greenwald said, "NTEU is proud to endorse the Comprehensive Paid Leave for Federal Employees Act. This much needed legislation will allow federal workers to take the leave they need, when they need it, without worrying about losing a paycheck.”

With the strong support of NTEU members, legislation passed in 2019 to give federal employees paid parental leave, but family and medical leave remains unpaid. This legislation would build on that progress by ensuring that federal employees won't have to worry about missing a paycheck when they need to take time away to care for those they love.
