Congress returned yesterday from a one-week recess to a growing agenda that includes many of the same heated issues that dominated lawmakers’ attention last month.
The Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security committees are expected to meet this week to discuss and advance their portions of the reconciliation bill funding immigration enforcement. The bill is expected to fund ICE and Border Patrol through fiscal year 2029, an effort to prevent future department-wide shutdowns at DHS. Budget reconciliation allows bills to pass the Senate with a simple majority of 51 votes instead of the 60 votes usually required.
Meanwhile, the House Appropriations Committee continues to push forward their versions of the FY 2027 appropriations bills, which cuts funding from many NTEU-represented agencies. As this process moves, NTEU will continue to fight for a fair pay raise and adequate funding for all NTEU-represented agencies.
