Congress Resumes Work on Agency Funding as Deadline Approaches

It’s a new year, but lawmakers find themselves in a familiar situation as they face yet another government funding deadline after enacting a continuing resolution last year that ends Jan. 30.

Congress passed a stopgap measure in November 2025, ending a record-breaking 43-day government shutdown. The legislation provided full-year funding for Agriculture, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction/VA appropriations bills while extending FY 2025 funding levels for the remaining agencies until the end of January.

On Monday, lawmakers released bill text for a three-bill funding package to fund the departments of Energy, Commerce, Interior, Justice, and the EPA, through the end of the current fiscal year. The House is expected to begin considering the package this week.

Congress still has six other funding measures to wrap up for fiscal year 2026, which cover funding for the IRS, HHS and the departments of Homeland Security and Treasury.

Tell your members of Congress to adequately fund the federal government and avoid another shutdown.
