Civil servants who have dedicated their careers to improving public health in this country were unjustifiably fired Monday night in divisions across the Department of Health and Human Services.
Firing employees by email with no further information lacks basic decency, and the emails included insincere messages thanking them for their service, despite being laid off without valid justification or explanation. Do not be fooled that these actions are about cutting government waste. These actions were taken without analysis, and America's most vulnerable will suffer when their government cuts back on important health-related services and programs because the nonpartisan professionals at HHS who have spent years providing those services have been fired. NTEU is in the process of gathering detailed information about these RIFs and will do everything in our power to return these valuable public servants to their dedicated mission on behalf of the American people.
