This week is Tax Security Awareness Week and NTEU supports the IRS and its security partners in spreading the word on how to keep your financial information—including tax records and returns—safe and secure.
With holiday season (and online holiday shopping) in full-swing, it’s a good time to make sure your personal computer’s passwords and security software are updated. As IRS Commissioner John Koskinen reminds us, “In the months ahead, more than 100 million tax returns will be completed on laptops and desktops by taxpayers and tax professionals, making this the perfect time to take steps to protect your valuable information.”
Here's a few key reminders for you (and to share with those around you):

Learn to recognize ‘phishing’ emails, threatening phone calls and texts from thieves posing as your bank, credit card company and government organizations, including the IRS. Do not click on links or download attachments from unknown or suspicious emails.
